31st October Day 8:

Halloween, dark by 5pm not a good time of year for dog walkers! Piglet goes to a paid foster space tomorrow allowing us to bring Bullseye out of kennels ready to be neutered on Tuesday. The question we always ask when offered a home for a dog whether temporary or permanent is: Will the dog be getting more in the home than it is now? The answer should of course be "yes" thankfully it is a "yes" for Piggy, as we know she will be having a better time at her foster home than we are able to give her here.

So the first part of our appeal has gone to plan......let's see what next week brings!

30th October Day 9:

Taking riding lessons all day today. Took Jade, Sapphire and Riley with me. All had some time and chance to run but not as-much as usual. Managed to give Piggy a run at Blackheath but could only just see due to dark, just as well she is white!

Phone message waiting for me an offer of a foster home for Riley from one of our owners very encouraging at the end of a hard day. Not sure if it will work yet. Fireworks tonight making Piggy bark need to be careful when dogs go down the garden last thing.

29th October Day 10:

Heard from Lorraine (retiring dog warden Reigate & Banstead) today was her last day after I don't know how many years. Numerous dogs owe their lives to Lorraine and dog wardens like her who plead with their bosses to give dogs in council pounds more time and badger rescues like us to take them otherwise the dogs would be PTS after seven days. DW like Lorraine go far beyond their remit and all for the dogs, getting no thanks from their bosses and groans from the rescues. Piglet and Riley both came from her and in the past we have had Pixie, Toby, Lily, Muttley all now homed.

Encouragement from Nikki at Epsom Canine Rescue that they are in the same situation as us. Things are so slow we cannot put the dogs in kennels as they would be staying so long they would go mad and cost us a fortune but then we have no spaces when really urgent rescue cases come along like Sandy!

The perfect homes are out there for each of our dogs we just need to find them.

28th October Day 11:

Started to feel a little panicky today about whether we are going to be able to help Sandy! It's all gone a bit quiet, there is some doubt over our paid foster space and we desperately need one space by next Monday 1st November so we can bring Bullseye out of kennels then another space a week later so we can take Sandy in. Please tell your friends and relatives, get the word out there, these dogs urgently need homes.

These are the dogs we have in at the moment :- Piglet (looking for a home since March)
Sapphire (looking for a home since April)
Riley (looking for a home since September)
Jade (been with us over a year)
Bullseye (looking for a home since september)
Although we look after them as best we can we cannot give them the comforts they need and would have in a home of their own. We need your help!

27th October Day 12:

We have a name for her! She is called Sandy! Tara the Dog Warden told me today. She had also spoken to the family who are aware of our plans and are happy to hand her over as they know she should not be living as she is but cannot cope due to their disabilities.

Walked Piglet(Piggy) and Jade at Blackheath this evening. Blackheath is a large, sandy heath close to us popular with dog walkers and horse riders. Piggy needs a good off lead run at least once a day, our other alternative is an hours walk but with lots of lead walking either end so it depends how much time and energy I have as to where we go. There were only two cars in the carpark tonight compared to five last night. We met the occupants returning soon after we started our walk, both have two dogs apiece but Piggy took no notice of any of them she was more interested in chasing birds! She is excellent meeting other dogs on a walk but she sure can run! I wish we could find a home for her, she really deserves to have someone's entire attention which as a foster home we just cannot do.

Some response to our appeal already, thank you, but still no homes.

26th October Day 13:

Pick Bullseye up from kennels and take him to the vets for his first vaccinnation. Concerned he may have kennel cough so leave other dogs at home which they find stressful as they are used to coming with me.

Bullseye is very friendly and good, though not happy in the car and whines during the journeys. He is thin and his coat dull. Can't wait to get him out of kennels but will have to leave it another week because of kc and lack of space.

He is good at vets and is described by the vet as a bit of a charmer! He is vaccinnated, wormed and treated with Promeris Duo for his skin. Then booked in to be neutered next Tuesday, Apparently he has an undescended testicle so that will make things interesting! Then he had a long walk on a long line. He was good on walk unfazed by horses and cows and staying close. His recall seemed good but I nearly lost him when we came across a deer. Fortunately there was a stock fence in his way!

Then back to kennels for now, always hard, but they are very fond of him there and not too much longer now.

25th October Day 14:

We are committed to take 3 year old female SBT on behalf of Croydon Dog Warden (as yet no name for her) Need two spaces before we can take her in have given ourselves two weeks to organise this.
